Job Description
The successful candidate will hold a relevant National Diploma in Safety Management, Environmental Health, or Environmental Science, or a BTech Degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health and Science. Certifications such as ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, and ISO 9001:2015 are required, with additional advantage given to candidates with expertise in Environmental & Waste Management. Relevant certifications like SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent are also necessary.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience in monitoring, implementing, and auditing SHERQ in a power or process plant environment.
- Strong knowledge of chemicals, boilers, steam turbines, and steam systems in power generation.
- Awareness or working knowledge of ISO9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety and Quality standards.
- Familiarity with Environment Management System principles.
- Knowledge of applicable legal requirements, aspect impact assessment, incident investigation, and report writing.
- Proficiency in firefighting, first aid, PPE, safety equipment, spillage containment, and handling HSE emergencies.
- Knowledge of waste identification, classification, disposal, and emission monitoring.
- Excellent communication skills in English and proficiency in MS Outlook and CMMS systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report on safety, health, environmental compliance, and quality assurance to the Plant Manager.
- Align organizational strategies with facilities management best practices and update policies accordingly.
- Implement strategies for maintenance, upgrades, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and ensure safety training for visitors, contractors, and employees.
- Manage incident reporting, employee training, permit systems, and support post-accident procedures.
- Participate in continuous auditing of HSE systems, monitor incidents, and communicate lessons learned.
- Lead on-site HSE training, conduct regular walk-around checks, and ensure availability of first aid and firefighting equipment.
- Manage environmental deviations, plan emergency drills, and oversee waste management and disposal.
- Ensure medical facilities are available and fulfill the role of Environmental Officer as per legal requirements.
