An environmental management firm in Mbombela seeks a qualified HSE Officer with a National Diploma in Safety Management, at least 5 years of experience in a plant environment, and proficiency in HSE systems. Job Description: The successful candidate will hold a relevant National Diploma in Safety Management, Environmental Health, or Environmental Science, or a BTech Degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health and Science.
Certifications such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 are required, with additional advantage given to candidates with expertise in Environmental & Waste Management.
Relevant certifications like SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent are also necessary.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience in monitoring, implementing, and auditing SHERQ in a power or process plant environment.
Strong knowledge of chemicals, boilers, steam turbines, and steam systems in power generation.
Awareness or working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and OHSAS standards.
Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety and Quality standards.
Familiarity with Environmental Management System principles.
Knowledge of applicable legal requirements, aspect impact assessment, incident investigation, and report writing.
Proficiency in firefighting, first aid, PPE, safety equipment, spillage containment, and handling HSE emergencies.
Knowledge of waste identification, classification, disposal, and emission monitoring.
Excellent communication skills in English and proficiency in MS Outlook and CMMS systems.
Key Responsibilities: Report on safety, health, environmental compliance, and quality assurance to the Plant Manager.
Align organizational strategies with facilities management best practices and update policies accordingly.
Implement strategies for maintenance, upgrades, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Conduct site inspections, audits, and ensure safety training for visitors, contractors, and employees.
Manage incident reporting, employee training, permit systems, and support post-accident procedures.
Participate in continuous auditing of HSE systems, monitor incidents, and communicate lessons learned.
Lead on-site HSE training, conduct regular walk-around checks, and ensure availability of first aid and firefighting equipment.
Manage environmental deviations, plan emergency drills, and oversee waste management and disposal.
Ensure medical facilities are available and fulfill the role of Environmental Officer as per legal requirements.
