Job description

We are seeking a dedicated SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) Officer to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across our operations.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe working environment, implementing safety policies, and promoting best practices within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop, implement, and maintain SHEQ policies and procedures.
  2. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
  3. Provide training and guidance on safety, health, environmental, and quality matters to staff.
  4. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify causes and recommend corrective actions.
  5. Maintain up-to-date safety records and reports for audits and inspections.
  6. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and quality standards.
  7. Monitor and report on health and safety performance, preparing reports for management.
  8. Promote and lead initiatives that encourage a culture of safety and quality.
  9. Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors during inspections and audits.
Qualifications & Requirements (South Africa):

Minimum: Matric / Grade 12 Certificate.

Preferred: Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or Quality Management.

A formal qualification in SHEQ (e.g., National Diploma in Safety Management or related fields).

Experience:

2+ years of experience in a SHEQ or Health and Safety role within a similar industry.

Strong knowledge of South African SHEQ legislation and regulations (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Environmental Management Act).

Experience with risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance audits.

Certifications:

SAMTRAC (Safety Management Training Course) or similar Health and Safety certification highly beneficial.

ISO Quality Management Certification advantageous.

First Aid and Fire Safety Certification.

SHEQ Auditor Certification beneficial for those involved in internal audits.

Skills & Competencies:

Excellent knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and advise staff.

Attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying hazards and improving safety.

Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
