Job Title: SHEQ Officer

Job Description:
- The SHEQ Officer is responsible for coordinating the Quality, Environmental, Health, Safety, legal compliance programmes, and related issues within the department.
- She/he is also responsible for ensuring that the business complies with all relevant SHEQ legislation, company policies, procedures, minimum requirements, and permit requirements.
- Coordination of the implementation, maintenance, and administration of the SHEQ management system.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years relevant experience in monitoring and auditing contractor safety performances.
- Experience in implementing Health and Safety in a highly technical, complex industrial environment.
- Exposure to and understanding of the implementation of OHSAS 18001 / 14001 and ISO 9001.
Qualification:
- National Senior Certificate / Matric.
- SAMTRAC Certificate or equivalent occupational SHE training.
- National Diploma or equivalent in Health & Safety Management.
- First Aid Level 2 Certificate.
- Fire Prevention Certificate.
- Registered as a Professional Construction Health & Safety Officer under SACPCMP.
- Environmental & Quality qualifications are an advantage.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Coordination of SHEQ service providers.
- Review compliance with regional rules and regulations.
- Ensure SHEQ meetings are held, recorded, and documented.
- Ensure/enforce contractors’ compliance.
- Conduct accident investigations when required.
- Assist management with the implementation and updating of the SHEQ management system.
- Maintain SHEQ documentation and data control systems.
- Promote SHEQ awareness.
- Monitor audit findings and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Conduct and facilitate risk assessments.
- Issue Non-conformance reports where required.
- Ensure management sets objectives and targets for SHEQ compliance.
- Evaluate and communicate the effectiveness of SHEQ management plans.
- Maintain control and training registers.
- Maintain all site safety files and develop employee ownership of the SHEQ system.
- Conduct regular awareness training on all sites.
- Ensure training for health and safety representatives, first aiders, fire fighters, and hazardous material handlers is up to date.
- General filing of all received documents.
Finance:
- Assist in the preparation and management of budgets.
- Establish and build relationships with TES representatives.
- Communicate and provide feedback regularly to clients and resolve queries promptly.
