Health Safety SHE Officer - Pretoria

Salary : R35K Per Month, 12-Month Contract

Purpose of Position :

Complement Recruitment is seeking a Health and Safety Officer for a 12-month contract based in Pretoria, Tshwane, Gauteng.

The Health and Safety Officer will play a vital role in promoting safety and health within the organization.

Your responsibilities include implementing and maintaining all aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and Regulations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and other relevant legal requirements. Your main goal is to minimize risks, maintain regulatory compliance, and improve safety and environmental standards at the workplace.

Minimum Requirements: Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications : Grade 12, SAMTRAC or similar health and safety qualification, valid driver’s license, and reliable transport.

Experience :

3 to 5 years SHE experience in related industries such as chemical or food manufacturing.

Other :

Sound knowledge of applicable legislation (OHS Act, COID Act, etc.), understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Management systems (e.g., ISO 45001:2018), ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and facilitate, proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel).

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Facilitate risk assessments to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
  2. Conduct regular inspections and compile reports on SHE matters.
  3. Implement corrective actions for risks and audit findings.
  4. Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and ensure corrective/preventive actions.
  5. Coordinate health and safety training for employees.
  6. Update legal appointment letters and SHE policies to ensure compliance.
  7. Assist with submission of Injury on Duty (IOD) claims.
  8. Compile monthly SHE reports.
  9. Perform job observations on high-risk activities and provide feedback.
  10. Conduct toolbox talks to educate staff.
  11. Ensure contractors and suppliers adhere to SHE policies.
  12. Conduct inductions for employees, visitors, and contractors.
  13. Coordinate emergency response and fire drills.
  14. Draft SHE procedures for management review and approval.
  15. Coordinate monthly safety meetings, including scheduling, distributing agendas, and recording minutes.
  16. Audit safety files and issue permits to work.
  17. Ensure waste management procedures are followed and coordinate waste removal.
  18. Maintain and update first aid kits and fire equipment.
  19. Manage company permits for hot work and confined spaces.
  20. Maintain SHE electronic document system.
