As a SHE Officer Graduate, you willsupport the SHE team with site safety inspections and audits, conduct site safety meetings and suitable sitesafety induction. To support with the coordinating and sustaining of operational requirements based onacceptable occupational health and safety standards, that ensure a secure and safe work environment at thesites being inspected.

Essential

  • Matric or equivalent Senior Certificate
  • National Diploma in Safety Management

Key Responsibilities...
Health and Safety Support:
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the Dischem’s SHE Management System across
  • stores, distribution centres, and head office functions.
  • Support the coordination of legal compliance audits, risk assessments, and SHE inspections in
  • alignment with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 frameworks.
  • Help maintain a legal register of applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation and ensure
  • routine legal appointments (Sections 16.2, 8, and 17) are current and documented.
  • Participate in incident and accident investigations by gathering evidence, assisting with root cause
  • analysis, and preparing reports in collaboration with the SHE department.
  • Assist in conducting baseline, issue-based, and continuous risk assessments, and ensure effective
  • communication of findings to affected departments.
  • Support the SHE teams in developing corrective and preventive action plans, monitoring implementation, and following up on outstanding actions.
  • Participate in the planning and completion of emergency preparedness drills and ensure that emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, spill kits, first aid boxes) is in place and functional.
  • Assist in promoting a strong safety culture by facilitating safety awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and training sessions for various employee levels.
  • Maintain accurate SHE documentation including safety files, minutes of meetings, training registers, and contractor compliance documents.
  • Support internal and external SHE reporting and analytics, including tracking leading and lagging indicators.
  • Assist with waste management and environmental compliance, including separation at source, disposal, and record-keeping for audits.
  • Contribute to the development and review of SHE procedures, policies, and standard work instructions.
