Job description

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitors the plant legal compliance and ensure compliance to all Safety standards.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of OHS Act requirements and make recommendations to Management regarding health and safety issues and implements health and safety compliance and audit functions.
  • Assist with legal appointment requirements and SHE Audits.
  • Involved in Personal Protective Equipment program selection, recycling, and auditing. Other projects may include Outreach, Auditing, Ergonomics and Industrial Hygiene assignments related to our Health and Safety programs, including OSHA compliance.
  • Interact with production Team Members, Leadership, Product and Process Engineers, Facilities Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Collect and analyze environmental data.
  • Report generation and graphical information presentation.
  • Monitor processes (e.g. basic industrial hygiene activities) and compile inspection reports.
  • Research on pollution prevention (e.g. reuse, recycling and reduction initiatives).
  • Participate in team problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
  • Observe behavioral based safety.
  • Involved in promoting a safe workplace, providing training, and investigating incidents to improve overall safety of the working areas.
  • Obtain an understanding of the importance of injury investigations and prevention of future incidents.
  • Attend monthly safety committee meetings and assist with action items.
  • Assist the Site Facilities Manager with any injury investigations and corrective actions.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Must have A tertiary qualification in Safety / Environmental Management
  • Certificate in SAMTRAC / Occupational health and safety.
  • 7 Years of experience in food Manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to think analytically, independently, and outside of the box to provide fresh ideas to improve processes.
  • Ability to work with people in a production/plant environment.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office and PC Skills.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene, policy, and occupational safety is preferre
