Job summary

A leading logistics company based in KwaZulu-Natal, Durban is seeking a SHE Officer responsible for ensuring compliance with safety legislation and managing safety procedures. Job description

Job Title: SHE Officer

Location: KwaZulu-Natal, Durban

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role within the Chemical and Petro-chemical industry

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect all firefighting and suppression equipment to ensure compliance with current fire safety legislation
  • Participate in and direct PIMAD (fire evacuation drills) activities
  • Supervise and perform salvage and overhaul operations
  • Lead the terminal safety efforts by liaising with staff, contractors, and transporters to ensure implementation of SHE procedures
  • Investigate and report on the cause of all incidents
  • Conduct monthly site safety, health, and environmental self-assessment audits to evaluate compliance with ISO standards and legal requirements, and issue reports
  • Develop safe working procedures and recommend tasks requiring planned job observations
  • Monitor environmental receptors such as effluent and air quality; participate in permit applications
  • Conduct monthly housekeeping audits, issue detailed reports, and ensure CAPA actions are completed by target dates
  • Communicate SHE issues effectively across sites by distributing toolbox talk topics and maintaining evidence of safety talks
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards by conducting scheduled inspections and assessments, escalating non-conformances as necessary
  • Develop Construction Environmental Management Plans (EMPs)
  • Control hazardous chemical substances and maintain SDS database
  • Perform security and safety-related tasks
