Job summary

Specialist Search Recruitment is seeking an experienced SHE Manager for a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing company in South Africa. You will develop and implement the site SHE strategy, ensure compliance with the OHS Act, environmental legislation, COIDA, GMP, and drive a culture of safety excellence across operations.

Qualifications

• Degree or National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management or related field.
• Registered with Saiosh or equivalent professional body
• Minimum 8-10 years SHE experience within manufacturing, FMCG or pharmaceutical environment.
• Minimum 5 years in a SHE management role.
• Experience managing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 systems.
• Experience with occupational health programmes and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the site SHE strategy.
• Establish SHE objectives and monitor performance.
• Lead SHE committees and management reviews.
• Ensure compliance with OHS Act, Environmental legislation, COIDA, GMP requirements and company standards.
• Manage inspections and regulatory audits.
• Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, behavioural safety programmes and preventative actions.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and environmental events.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement CAPAs.
• Manage medical surveillance, occupational health programmes, wellness initiatives, IOD administration and return-to-work programmes.
• Monitor waste management, environmental impact, emissions, water and energy initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with permits and licences.
• Manage emergency response plans, evacuation drills, crisis response plans and fire prevention programmes.
• Develop and deliver SHE training programmes.
• Ensure legal appointments and competency requirements remain current.
• Lead, coach, and develop the SHE team to ensure high levels of performance and service delivery.
• Establish clear objectives, performance standards, and development plans for team members.
• Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Perform any other duties as may reasonably be required.
