Service Training Manager – Johannesburg
Overview
Job Purpose:
The Service Training Manager is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering technical and service training programmes for staff, dealerships, and customers within the transport and commercial industry. The role ensures that service teams have the necessary technical knowledge, skills, and certifications to maintain high service quality, improve customer satisfaction, and support brand standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Training Development & Delivery: Design, develop, and implement service and technical training programmes for technicians, service advisors, and dealer staff.
- Delivery of training sessions (theoretical and practical) on commercial vehicles, systems, and components.
- Ensure compliance with OEM training standards and industry regulations.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and update content as required.
- Curriculum & Resource Management: Develop training materials, manuals, e-learning content, and assessment tools.
- Maintain training equipment, simulators, and workshop tools.
- Manage training records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
- Stakeholder & Dealer Support: Work closely with dealerships, workshops, and transport clients to identify training needs.
- Support new product launches with technical training.
- Act as a technical advisor to service teams and customers when required.
- Liaise with OEMs (local and international) for updated training content.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Track and report on training participation, skills improvements, and service performance KPIs.
- Conduct post-training evaluations and provide feedback to management.
- Identify skill gaps and propose training interventions.
- Team & Leadership: Manage and mentor training instructors and facilitators.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the service network.
- Coordinate with HR and management for workforce development initiatives.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial vehicles, transport systems, and after-sales service.
- Proven ability to design and deliver training programmes.
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Strong leadership and people development skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office, LMS (Learning Management Systems), and training technology.
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical Diploma/Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent).
- Training qualification (e.g., Train-the-Trainer, ETDP, or similar) advantageous.
- 5+ years’ experience in service training, technical training, or after-sales support.
- Previous experience in the transport, trucking, or commercial vehicle industry essential.
- Experience working with OEMs and dealer networks advantageous.
