Job summary

A leading service provider in Johannesburg is looking for a Service Technician. The role includes installing and maintaining equipment, conducting tests, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Candidates must be qualified electricians or millwrights with at least 5 years of experience in relevant machinery. Strong communication skills in English and Afrikaans are essential. This position will involve some overtime and travel requirements.

Qualifications

  • Computer literate with knowledge of Quality Management Systems is advantageous.

  • Assemble and connect equipment according to specifications.
  • Perform repairs and maintain equipment at customer's request.
  • Prepare job and service sheets, ensuring documentation is complete.

Job description

SERVICE TECHNICIAN – JHB

Installing and Commissioning Equipment
  • Assembling equipment and attachments.
  • Connecting equipment to utilities provided by customers.
  • Conducting tests to ensure that machinery is fully operational according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Conducting machine demonstrations with the product and customer’s operator / technical personnel.
  • Introducing customer / technical personnel to the manufacturer’s operation and technical manuals, specifically the safety procedures.
  • Emphasising the correct use of operating and technical manuals.
  • Obtaining customer sign-off and returning relevant documentation for filing purposes.
Service and Maintenance
  • Carrying out repairs and service to equipment at customer’s request.
  • Upon completion of repairs and service, conduct tests, preferably with the product, to ensure job completion according to the requested service or repair.
  • Demonstrating the machine operation to the customer and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Obtaining customer sign-off on job cards / service sheets and returning documentation to the After Sales Coordinator for invoicing.
Administration
  • Preparing quotations.
  • Completing job sheets and service sheets.
  • Preparing written reports on equipment if required.
  • Ensuring that all spares and components used conform to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Ensuring that all work carried out conforms to legislated safety regulations.
Quality Management
  • Conform Quality Management documentation.
  • Assist in auditing the Quality Management System.
Minimum requirements
  • Applicants must be qualified electricians with a nationally accepted qualification and with mechanical experience OR be qualified millwrights.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate fluently in both English and Afrikaans and should have good communication skills.
  • At least 5 years of proven, previous related experience in meat or food or similar machinery would be advantageous.
  • Applicants must have a proven track record and contactable references.
  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Applicants must be willing to work overtime when required.
  • Applicants must be prepared to spend time away from home (local and overseas).
  • Applicants must be computer literate.
  • Experience and / or knowledge of a Quality Management System e.g. ISO would be advantageous.
  • The position requires an individual who is accurate, self-motivated, able to take initiative, and willing to learn and work under pressure.
