An engineering company specializing in the installation, repair, and maintenance of diesel engines and turbochargers for the marine, power, locomotive, and generator industries is looking for a Service Engineer to join their team in Rossburgh, Durban. IMPORTANT: This is a contract position.
You will be required to work outside normal hours from time to time and travel both on land and sea.
Industry Experience
Marine industry experience is required.
Purpose
The primary purpose of the Service Engineer is to perform installations, repairs, maintenance, and commissioning of equipment on high & medium speed, two-stroke diesel engines, including generator maintenance. Repairs may be carried out in the workshop or onboard vessels or plants.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance, Installation & Repair: Ensure all work complies with manufacturer procedures and specifications, utilizing instruction manuals and technical drawings. Tasks include dismantling, cleaning, inspection, calibration, replacement, assembly, and testing of equipment and components. Assist with root cause investigations and ensure safety standards and proper tool use.
- Tools & Equipment: Maintain tools in good condition, ensure locking devices are in good condition, and record all calibrations and deviations.
- Fault Finding & Repairs: Assist with troubleshooting control & monitoring equipment, remove and install fuel pumps and injectors, perform welding and fabrication tasks.
- Customer & Colleague Liaison: Perform on-site coordination with subcontractors and specialists, maintain respectful interactions.
- Administration: Be computer literate, produce service reports, record hours including overtime, and ensure timely submission of documentation and invoices.
- Communication: Keep management informed of issues and maintain professional interactions.

Minimum Requirements
At least a Red Seal certificate as a Diesel Fitter or Diesel Mechanic and experience in the marine industry.
