Job Summary

Tetra Pak South Africa has an opening in Johannesburg for an experienced Service Delivery Engineer. This rewarding and challenging role offers freedom with accountability and involves working directly with our Customer Service Operations (CSO) team and customers.

The role includes preventive and corrective maintenance, installation & commissioning of new equipment, upgrades to existing equipment, providing production support, and on-site customer training across Southern Africa.

The CSO team supports our internal team and customers by providing on-site support for Tetra Pak equipment in production facilities. We seek a customer-focused Service Delivery Engineer who can travel up to 75% of the time, with a dedication to quality and health & safety.

The successful candidate will report to a Service Delivery Manager based in Johannesburg.

What you will do

  • Act as an ambassador for Tetra Pak, ensuring good working relationships with customers and safeguarding our reputation.
  • Execute work in accordance with Tetra Pak and customer food safety regulations, escalating any food safety, quality, or regulatory issues.
  • Provide installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting services on Tetra Pak equipment, ensuring performance aligns with standards and safety procedures.
  • Install and commission rebuilding kits/upgrades, and reinstate lines into production.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and automation issues, executing necessary repairs.
  • Report and manage technical issues promptly, escalating when necessary, with clear problem descriptions for rapid resolution.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for problems to enable permanent solutions.
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement at customer facilities and follow up on requests and concerns.
  • Conduct production supervision and operator training at customer sites.
  • Maintain key certifications on components and modules.
  • Submit travel expenses, time reports, service reports, and correspondence timely.
  • Share knowledge and support skill development among colleagues.

We believe you have

  • N6 / Diploma or Trade Test in Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Millwright, or equivalent, with 5 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting processing and packaging machines in the Food & Beverage industry is preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment installation, controls, automation, servo systems maintenance, or service work is an advantage.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Commitment to health and safety culture.
  • Knowledge of WCM / TPM principles, Continuous Improvement, and PSM methodologies.
  • Troubleshooting experience with Allen Bradley & Danfoss frequency drives, PLC equipment, Siemens TIA Portal, Siemens S7-300/1500, Rockwell RS Logix, PLC programming software, InTouch (Wonderware).
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to handle multiple stakeholders with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75%.
  • Ability to handle administrative tasks such as reports, expenses, and feedback.
