Job summary

Origin Wine Stellenbosch is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to lead QA, quality controls, and compliance at the Stellenbosch site. The role focuses on establishing standards, maintaining the QMS, and guiding laboratory and production teams in line with wine industry practices.

The ideal candidate has at least five years in a similar role, with laboratory experience and essential wine industry know-how, and will drive continuous improvement, supplier liaison, and safety

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in similar position and previous laboratory experience.
• Wine industry experience essential.
• Relevant Chemistry Degree or Diploma in Wine Making, Food Technology or Food Science.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains systems to establish standards relating to activities and products.
• Develops and maintains systems to measure performance against established standards.
• Monitors performance and communicates improvements across departments.
• Ensures tests methods and activities align with wine industry standards and practices.
• Assists with new product development and introduction.
• Monitors and finalises all customer complaints.
• Manages the strategic implementation and sustainability of quality systems (QMS) including certifications.
• Ensures annual surveillance and recertification audits are carried out.
• Communicates quality issues across all departments.
• Owns the site QMS.
• Supports Laboratory staff in new product developments and techniques.
• Participates in new wine making and bottling developments.
• Monitors suppliers and stays updated on new products and costs.
• Allocates resources to meet technical requirements and capacity.
• Evaluates manufacturing processes and integrates new technologies.
• Manages future expansions and client base.
• Provides guidance and development for staff; conducts appraisals and recruiting as needed.
• Acts as Responsible Person under OHS Act and promotes safety.
• Ensures safe housekeeping and hygiene management.
• Promotes safe production practices.
