Position Overview

Position: Senior WHS Advisor Systems and Reporting

Type: Ongoing Full-Time Opportunity

Locations: Newcastle / Parramatta (other locations considered, 2-3 days per week in an office)

Salary: Clerk Grade 9 / 10, ranging from $125,693 to $138,510 plus super, relative to experience

The Role

This pivotal role involves developing and maintaining health, safety, and wellbeing data systems and processes. The goal is to inform business groups of their risks and contribute to the elimination or reduction of incidents and hazards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design, implement, maintain, and optimize database systems ensuring scalability, security, and performance to support data-driven decision-making.
  2. Develop and manage data pipelines by designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient ETL processes across multiple platforms and data sources.
  3. Source, curate, and manage multiple information sets, ensuring data integrity, implementing quality controls, and developing strategies for data cleaning and validation.
  4. Analyze, interpret, and report on data from various sources, identifying trends and insights to support evidence-based decision-making.
  5. Develop and maintain standard, ad hoc, and automated reports using appropriate reporting tools, and recommend standardization to improve efficiency.
  6. Support WHS projects and strategic initiatives by providing data insights, reporting, and technical guidance.
  7. Coordinate and facilitate consultative processes to benchmark performance against targets and industry standards.
  8. Manage daily administration and upkeep of customer-facing systems, such as incident reporting platforms, ensuring reliability, data accuracy, and user accessibility, while providing technical support.

Candidate Requirements
  • Extensive experience in database management and data engineering, with a strong understanding of data architecture, ETL processes, and governance.
  • Proficiency with data tools such as Alteryx, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI, with the ability to design and optimize workflows.
  • Experience with database systems like SQL Server and Snowflake, including writing complex queries, performance tuning, and data modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis techniques to provide actionable insights.
Essential Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in data science, data engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience in data management, analytics, or engineering.
