Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Urban Planning and Development Consultant to join our team, delivering sustainable urban strategies for Benoni and wider Gauteng. You will conduct research, engage stakeholders, prepare planning documents, and advise municipalities and developers on land use, housing, infrastructure, and economic development.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in Urban Planning or related field, 6+ years of experience, strong GIS/spatial analysis skills, and proven ability

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Design, Geography, Public Policy, or related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in urban planning, development consulting, or municipal planning roles.
• Strong understanding of South African planning legislation (e.g., SPLUMA) and development frameworks relevant to Gauteng.
• Proven experience in spatial analysis, GIS, and the preparation of statutory planning documents.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and deliver within set timelines and budgets.
• Experience in community engagement and facilitating public participation processes is essential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive urban research, data analysis, and feasibility studies for development projects in Benoni and other Gauteng municipalities.
• Develop strategic spatial plans, land use management schemes, and policy frameworks for urban areas.
• Engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community groups, developers, and the public.
• Prepare high-quality planning reports, proposals, presentations, and regulatory submissions.
• Advise clients on urban development best practices, zoning regulations, and development control processes.
• Facilitate public participation processes and community consultations related to planning initiatives.
• Assess the environmental, social, and economic impacts of proposed development projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, and economists, on integrated development projects.
• Stay current with urban planning legislation, trends, and technologies impacting development in Gauteng.
• Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client relationship management.
