Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Game Developer specializing in Unity to guide a team in creating mobile and PC games from concept to launch. This hybrid role blends collaboration with remote flexibility, based in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.

You will define technical direction, ensure code quality, and drive projects with strong leadership and communication skills. 7+ years in game development with Unity/C# proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional game development experience, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role.
• Expert proficiency in Unity engine and C# scripting.
• Experience shipping multiple titles on iOS, Android, or PC.
• Strong understanding of game design, 3D graphics, physics, and AI.
• Experience with version control systems and agile development methodologies.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage and motivate a development team.
• Experience in performance optimization and debugging across platforms.
• Previous involvement in the South African game development community is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of game developers, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
• Architect and implement robust, scalable, and efficient game systems using Unity C#.
• Oversee the entire development lifecycle, from initial design and prototyping to final release and post-launch support.
• Collaborate closely with designers, artists, and producers to translate game concepts into playable features.
• Ensure high standards of code quality, performance optimization, and maintainability.
• Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and promote best practices in software development.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges and bugs.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Unity engine technology and game development trends.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps and strategic planning for future projects.
