Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Mine Ventilation Engineer to oversee ventilation systems for underground operations in Paarl, Western Cape. You will design, implement and manage ventilation strategies to ensure safe air quality and temperature, leveraging CFD tools and industry standards.

The ideal candidate holds a Mining or Mechanical Engineering degree with ventilation specialization and 7+ years of experience, including Ventsim/Ventsys and CFD proficiency. SA regulations and safety are paramount.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining or Mechanical Engineering with ventilation specialization.
• 7+ years in mine ventilation engineering, underground mining preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ventilation principles, thermodynamics, and contaminant control.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain mine ventilation networks for adequate airflow.
• Perform site assessments and monitor pressure/airflow.
• Develop dust suppression and contaminant control strategies.
• Monitor underground thermal environments and implement cooling.
• Use CFD/ventilation software for modeling and optimization.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regs.
• Collaborate with planning/production to integrate ventilation needs.
• Manage ventilation budget and procurement.
• Train and supervise junior staff.
• Investigate ventilation-related incidents and implement corrective actions.
