Job description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ in Midrand has an opportunity available for a Senior Treasury Manager to join the Head Office Finance team. The purpose of the role is to assist the Head of Treasury in managing the Group’s treasury function, including cash and liquidity management, foreign exchange reporting, governance and compliance, preparation of statutory financial statements, and strategic treasury support. This role includes managing certain treasury and finance staff and is critical in improving treasury controls, processes, and reporting.


Minimum Requirements…

Essential:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • CA(SA) or equivalent (e.g. CIMA/ACCA/CPA) qualification
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ post-articles experience in financial management, treasury, corporate finance, or financial control
Advantage:
  • SAP experience, advanced Excel skills, additional treasury related or corporate finance qualification
  • Honours in Finance or Accounting. Experience in a retail, listed, or FMCG environment, prior people management experience


Key Responsibilities...

1. Financial Transactions & Treasury Support:

  • Prepare and maintain short, medium, and long-term cash flow forecasts for the Group.
  • Monitor daily cash positions across all bank accounts to ensure liquidity sufficiency.
  • Conduct variance analysis on actual vs forecasting cash flows and FX positions.
  • Assist with the execution, monitoring and accounting of foreign exchange instruments
  • Prepare FX exposure and hedging reports, including tracking and valuation of forward exchange contracts.
  • Perform monthly foreign currency revaluations and prepare related journal entries in compliance with IFRS
  • Maintain and continuously improve cash flow forecasting models using historical trends and predictive analytics.
2. Financial Analysis and Control:
  • Analyse treasury trends and exposures across multiple currencies, entities, and jurisdictions.
  • Provide input into board and management reporting packs, including treasury KPIs and liquidity metrics.
  • Collaborate with Financial Planning and Analysis and accounting teams to align treasury insights with broader financial strategy.
3. Management of Treasury and Financial Controls:
  • Assist the Head of Treasury in managing day-to-day treasury operations across the Group.
  • Supervise and mentor treasury staff and finance personnel, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor SOPs for treasury processes, ensuring alignment with best practices.
  • Drive internal control improvements and operational efficiency within the treasury function.
  • Oversee treasury reconciliations, authorizations, and segregation of duties.
  • Ensure compliance with internal audit requirements and support audit readiness.
4. Treasury Financial Reporting and Compliance:
  • Assist in the preparation of the Group’s statutory financial statements, focusing on treasury related disclosures.
  • Prepare inputs for financial statements including cash flow statements, FX gains/losses, and financial instruments.
  • Support financial year-end processes and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to queries from internal and external auditors.
  • Maintain documentation for treasury transactions and ensure audit trail integrity.
5. Strategic Treasury Initiatives and Projects:
  • Participate in banking partner reviews, funding projects and ESG-related treasury initiatives.
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing treasury systems and automation tools, and digital platforms.
  • Contribute to initiatives around sustainable finance and treasury optimization.
  • Support treasury transformation projects aimed at improving agility, scalability, and digital maturity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, IT, Risk, ESG) to align treasury strategy with broader business goals.
  • Conduct benchmarking and market research to identify innovative treasury practices and technologies.
  • Assist in developing treasury-related business cases and ROI analyses for strategic investment.
6. Internal Reporting & Controls:
  • Prepare and maintain treasury dashboards and internal reports for senior management and board level visibility.
  • Ensure treasury compliance with accounting standards, (e.g IFRS, tax laws, and exchange control regulations).
  • Monitor and report on treasury KPIs such as liquidity ratios, FX exposure, cash conversion cycle and funding costs.
  • Ensure financial transactions comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
  • Support documentation and reconciliation processes for treasury transactions.

  • Maintain and update treasury policies and procedures to reflect regulatory changes and operational improvements.
  • Implement controls to mitigate operational, financial, and compliance risk within treasury operations.
  • Facilitate periodic interval reviews and control testing to ensure process integrity and readiness for audits.
7.Risk Management and Process Enhancement:
  • Analyze and resolve complex treasury issues, including FX exposures, banking constraints, and liquidity mismatches across multiple entities and currencies.
  • Investigate and resolve queries escalated from junior staff, external banks, or internal stakeholders with professionalism and urgency.
  • Identify and recommend process enhancements to improve treasury operations, risk mitigation, and compliance.
  • Maintain treasury-related systems and tools, ensuring data integrity, system efficiency and alignment with business needs.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, speed, and control in transaction processing.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on recurring treasury issues and develop corrective action plans.
  • Monitor operational risk within treasury and implement controls to mitigate exposure.
  • Support business continuity planning and risk assessment related to treasury operations.
  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to troubleshoot system issues and optimize treasury workflows.
8.Banking & Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with banking legislation, SARS, SARB Exchange Control, Companies Act, and internal audit requirements.
  • Coordinate with banking partners to ensure smooth execution of payments, collections and intercompany transfers.
  • Assist with external and internal audits, including preparation of supporting documentation
  • Maintain policies and procedures relating to treasury and ensure ongoing relevance
  • Monitor oversee banking mandates, authorization matrices, and signatory controls to ensure governance and accountability.
  • Support the onboarding of new bank accounts and banking platforms.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of treasury transactions, including loan drawdowns, repayments and interest settlements.
