Job summary

Wilderness is seeking a Travel Designer based in Johannesburg to drive sales by creating compelling journeys for agents and clients. You will leverage your knowledge of Southern and East Africa to negotiate with suppliers and assemble packages that deliver high guest satisfaction.

We value 4–5 years of senior experience in inbound travel, strong relationship building, and meticulous attention to detail. Familiarity with TourPlan and WETU is preferred, and personal travel experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Matric certificate with maths (minimum standard grade or above).
• Tertiary certificate in Travel & Tourism/hospitality is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Generate and grow sales by securing, costing, and presenting journeys to Sales agents.
• Understand strategic and preferred suppliers, know their deals, specials and packages for rate reductions without harming guest experience.
• Demonstrate a strong sales focus and investment in the success of each booking.
• Liaise with Reservations Manager on sales potential and agent relationships for bookings.
• Provide speedy service to Sales agents with efficient communication and tight deadlines.
• Maintain continuous communication and excellent service delivery to agents at all times.

Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Travel Designer plays a vital role in driving sales, building relationships, and ensuring exceptional customer service in a highly competitive travel industry. Their knowledge, expertise, and strong focus on sales will contribute to the growth and success of our business.

This position is based in Johannesburg

Detailed Responsibilities

• Generate and grow sales by securing, costing, and presenting journeys to Sales agents in a timely manner.
• Have a detailed understanding of the strategic and preferred suppliers, have intimate knowledge of their deals, specials and packages – know how to negotiate and incorporate these benefits into rate reductions for the client but not compromising the elevated guest experience.
• Demonstrate a strong focus on sales and be equally invested in the success of each booking.
• Liaise with the Reservations Manager on sales potential and any development on the agent relationship for all bookings.
• Deliver a speedy service to Sales agents, ensuring efficient communication and meeting tight deadlines.
• Continuous communication and excellent service delivery to agents at all times.
  

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualification

• Matric certificate – with maths (minimum standard grade or above).
• Tertiary certificate in Travel & Tourism/hospitality is advantageous.
  

Experience

• 4-5 years with Senior experience in handling customer relationships developing & promoting product and building journeys in the inbound travel industry.
• In depth knowledge of Southern and East Africa.
• Working knowledge of TourPlan and WETU or similar booking/operating system.
• Personal or educational travel experience is advantageous.
• Excellent attention to detail.
