Placements24 is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer for a prominent infrastructure firm in Port Elizabeth to lead road network design, traffic analyses, TIAs, and transportation planning across the Eastern Cape.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate CAD workflows (AutoCAD/Civil 3D), and collaborate with municipal authorities to deliver safe, sustainable mobility solutions on urban streets and arterial projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Civil Engineering with Transportation specialization.
• PrEng registration with ECSA.
• 8+ years of professional experience in transportation engineering focusing on road design and traffic analysis.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Synchro or Vissim.
• Strong understanding of traffic modeling and highway capacity analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of road infrastructure projects, including geometric design and pavement analysis.
• Conduct traffic studies, volume counts, capacity analyses, and queuing assessments.
• Prepare TIAs and transportation planning reports.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent infrastructure engineering firm, is looking for an experienced Senior Transportation Engineer to join their growing practice in Port Elizabeth. This role is central to the planning, design, and implementation of efficient and safe road networks and transportation systems across the Eastern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading project teams, conducting traffic analyses, developing geometric designs for roads and intersections, and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, urban planning, and project management. You will play a key role in shaping the future mobility and connectivity of the region, working on diverse projects ranging from urban street improvements to major arterial road upgrades. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of road infrastructure projects, including geometric design, intersection design, and pavement analysis.


• Conduct comprehensive traffic studies, including volume counts, capacity analyses, and queuing assessments.


• Prepare detailed traffic impact assessments (TIAs) and transportation planning reports.


• Develop engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documentation using relevant CAD and design software.


• Manage project timelines, budgets, and client communications for transportation engineering tasks.


• Ensure designs comply with South African National Standards (SANS) and other applicable regulations.


• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (structural, geotechnical, environmental) to ensure integrated project delivery.


• Mentor and supervise junior transportation engineers and technicians.


• Review construction plans and provide site support during the construction phase as needed.


• Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in transportation engineering and traffic management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Engineering.


• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in transportation engineering, with a focus on road design and traffic analysis.


• Professional Engineer (PrEng) registration with ECSA.


• Proficiency in transportation engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Synchro, Vissim, or similar.


• Strong understanding of traffic modeling, geometric design principles, and highway capacity analysis.


• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


• Demonstrated project management experience and ability to lead project teams.


• Experience working with municipal and provincial authorities in South Africa.
