Job summary

Impact HR seeks an experienced Transport Manager to oversee and optimize the organisation's transport and fleet operations. You will lead drivers, controllers and maintenance planning to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of goods in a compliant framework.

You will drive route planning, monitor performance, and implement cost-reduction strategies while maintaining high customer service levels and adherence to laws and company policy across the fleet.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent is required.
• A transport-related diploma or degree is required.
• 20+ years’ experience in the transport field is expected.
• 10+ years’ experience in management of transport controllers and schedulers, with a fleet of at least 10 vehicles.
• Knowledge of vehicle tracking/transport systems is preferred.
• Understanding of transport laws and Labour Law (LRA) is required.
• Experience with both short and long-haul fleets is preferred.
• Knowledge of Cape Town and its roads is preferred.
• Strong communication with management, peers and subordinates is essential.
• Decisive thinking with a self-confident approach is needed.
• Logical thinking and composure under pressure are important.
• Basic understanding of transport vehicle mechanics is beneficial.
• Computer skills: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a fleet of almost 100 vehicles and transport requirements.
• Lead and manage a large team of transport controllers, drivers and general workers.
• Ensure fleet is monitored continuously and prepared for all situations.
• Ensure transport requirements are completed timeously for customers.
• Plan accurately daily and use resources effectively.
• Implement cost reduction strategies.
• Identify improvement areas and implement changes across the business.
• Coordinate with HR on staff-related issues and provide on-the-job training.
• Assign vehicles to jobs correctly.
• Maintain high customer service levels.
• Ensure fleet is roadworthy and compliant with policy and laws.
• Collaborate with in-house truck workshop for maintenance.
• Collaborate with bin tracking team for container management.
• Coordinate with Johannesburg team on long-distance transport matters.
