The role requires 8+ years in software engineering and 5+ years in telecom OSS/BSS, with experience across MNOs, MVNOs, FTTH, FWA, satellite, and related environments. Hybrid work in South Africa is offered.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of telecommunications OSS/BSS experience.
• Experience with Mobile Network Operators, MVNOs or related telecom environments.
• Java and C# proficiency.

Project Overview

Our client is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Telecom Software Engineer to design, build, integrate, and operate next-generation telecommunications platforms and services. The successful candidate will possess deep expertise across Telecom OSS/BSS domains, cloud-native software engineering, API-led integration, and modern platform development practices.

This role is responsible for delivering scalable, high-performance solutions spanning customer management, product catalogues, order management, service provisioning, charging, billing, settlement, assurance, and real-time operational monitoring. The engineer will work across multiple telecom technology domains including mobile, fixed, FTTH, FWA, satellite, and MVNO environments.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Engineering & Solution Development

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support complex software systems and applications.
• Build scalable, resilient, and high-performing telecommunications platforms using cloud-native technologies.
• Develop reusable capabilities and services rather than relying solely on customization of vendor products.
• Participate in architecture, design reviews, and engineering governance processes.
• Apply modern software engineering practices, including DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and infrastructure automation.
• Leverage emerging AI technologies and foundational engineering practices to improve operational efficiency and customer experiences.

Telecom OSS/BSS Capability Development

Design and deliver solutions across key telecommunications business domains, including:

• Customer Management
• Partner Management
• Product Catalogue Management
• Product Offers, Bundles, Pricing and Promotions
• Order Capture and Order Management
• Service Fulfilment and Provisioning
• Charging and Rating
• Billing and Invoice Generation
• Payments and Balance Management
• Settlement and Revenue Processing

• Assurance and Support Management
• Customer, Usage and Network Event Analytics

Integration & API Engineering

• Develop and manage integrations across internal, external, legacy, vendor, and partner ecosystems.
• Implement multi-provider API integration capabilities.
• Design and build state machine and orchestration engines.
• Apply RESTful and event-driven integration patterns.
• Develop reusable API frameworks and interoperability capabilities.
• Drive API lifecycle management, governance, security, monitoring, and versioning.
• Enable standards-based integrations using TM Forum Open APIs and Open Digital Architecture (ODA) principles.

Operations & Support

• Support real-time monitoring, alerting, and incident response capabilities.
• Troubleshoot production issues across multiple OSS/BSS domains.
• Analyse customer, billing, charging, provisioning, usage, and network-related incidents.
• Contribute to platform reliability, observability, and operational excellence initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of telecommunications OSS/BSS experience.
