Purpose of Job

To develop effective rail equipment strategies and implementation of optimised solutions. Responsibilities include successful execution of rail related projects and provide expert assistance to the maintenance team, as well as co-ordination between rail department and service providers.

Key Accountabilities
  • Maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems on Diesel Electric locomotives.
  • Maintenance of railway infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance to Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) standards and directives.
  • Ensure compliance to Sasol and SANS standards.
  • Generate management reports from SAP (Quality, calibration records, maintenance history).
  • Support reliability engineering through facilitation of RCA’s.
  • Verify drawings and designs w.r.t. locomotives and railway systems.
  • Ensure compliance to document management.
  • Awareness, focus and control of costs / budget.
  • Project management and execution.
  • Responsible for QA/QC on locomotives and railway systems.
  • Knowledge and application of management of Change (MOC) processes.
Formal Education
  • Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
  • BEng Tech / BTech / Adv Diploma Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Strong Wish)
  • 5 years relevant experience.
  • Technical experience on Locomotives and/or Railway Systems.
  • Valid drivers license

  • Provide professional feedback to customers.
  • Regular involvement and training of maintenance personnel.
