Job description

Job title: Senior Technical Operator: KZN (12515)

Job Location: KwaZulu-Natal, Durban | Deadline: July 04, 2025

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Contribute to operational submissions to Line Manager regarding Business Unit Strategy aligned with the Corporate Plan and Target Operating Model.
  2. Assist in developing Opex Plans and contributing to project scope development.
  3. Participate in Capex project execution and operational workflows to meet functional requirements and prevent on-air disruptions.
  4. Contribute to departmental budget with Minor Capex & Opex inputs.
  5. Ensure maintenance and system sustainability through Opex contributions.
  6. Support the Specialist with marketable Sound/Video skills to develop alternative Revenue Streams such as CD Artists Recording, Webinars, External Live Broadcasts, etc., as per external tariff list.
  7. Meet agreed target percentages for resource, equipment, and facility availability, and achieve above-average SLA ratings.
  8. Submit ad-hoc fault reports and resolutions to line manager as needed.
  9. Provide accurate monthly reports on broadcast, recording, production, and post-production deliverables, highlighting risks and proposing solutions.
  10. Coordinate operational production requirements and set up, test, and operate facility equipment.
  11. Record music/choir per SOP, liaising with music producers or church representatives as appropriate.
  12. Set up and operate camera and Live View equipment for News and external broadcasts.
  13. Understand mic placements and industry best practices.
  14. Manage in-field recordings, mixing, and front-of-house audio requirements.
  15. Record multi-layered drama productions with FX, music, and multiple audio streams.
  16. Perform recordings according to customer requirements and broadcast standards, monitoring sound quality during recordings.
  17. Monitor schedule changes and ensure sound/video quality meets broadcast standards.
  18. Archive recordings following best practices and set up mix-minus configurations.
  19. Manipulate final audio/visual mixes as per customer requirements and standards.
  20. Ensure timely delivery of production materials within scope and specifications.
  21. Set up and operate Broadcast Communication conferencing with multi-layer contributions.
  22. Contribute to specifications aligned with customer needs and procurement policies.
  23. Report and escalate risks with corrective plans.
  24. Adhere to OHS and company policies & procedures, maintaining discipline.
  25. Verify assets annually (target: 95%) and control all assets, including outside broadcasts.
  26. Serve customers professionally, ensuring service quality and addressing non-conformance.
  27. Provide operational guidance to customers and assist with facility capabilities.
  28. Follow performance management policies, conduct annual performance agreements, and quarterly reviews.
  29. Offer operational training regularly.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Sound Engineering Certificate (1+ year) or Film/Video Technology or relevant qualification.
  2. Advantage: Sound Engineering Diploma (3 years, NQF Level 6).
  3. Driver’s License: C1 (Code 10) with PDP.
  4. Minimum 5 years’ experience in broadcast environment, including at least 3 years at Operator level with relevant digital sound & video experience in live, production, and post-production environments.
