About the Role

Our client, a significant contributor to the Energy infrastructure, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Substation Engineer to join their expanding team in Upington, Northern Cape . This role is pivotal in the design, engineering, and project management of high-voltage substation projects, crucial for power transmission and distribution networks. You will lead the technical aspects of substation development, ensuring designs meet stringent safety, performance, and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering of high-voltage substations (up to and including 400kV).
• Develop detailed designs for substation layouts, equipment specifications (transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, busbars), grounding systems, and protection schemes.
• Perform power system studies related to substation design, including load flow, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant national and international standards (e.g., SANS, IEC, IEEE) and client specifications.
• Manage project execution, including contractor oversight, construction support, and commissioning activities.
• Review technical proposals and drawings from vendors and contractors.
• Collaborate effectively with project managers, civil/structural engineers, and other stakeholders.
• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for new substation projects.
• Mentor and guide junior substation engineers and designers.
• Stay abreast of technological advancements in substation engineering and grid modernization.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in substation design and project engineering, preferably within the power utility or energy transmission sector.
