Formación

• Ph.D. in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or related field.
• Minimum 7 years post-doctoral experience in structural biology with strong Cryo-EM focus.
• Proven track record of high-resolution Cryo-EM structures of challenging targets.
• Experience with plunge freezing and Cryo-EM sample preparation.
• Proficiency in Cryo-EM data processing software (RELION, cryoSPARC, cisTEM).
• Strong communication and publication record.

About the Role

Our client, a cutting-edge biopharmaceutical company, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Biologist with expertise in Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) to join their team. This role is fundamental to elucidating the three-dimensional structures of key biological macromolecules, providing critical insights for drug discovery and development. You will be responsible for the complete pipeline, from sample preparation to data processing and structure determination, contributing to the design of novel therapeutics. This position requires your dedicated presence at our advanced research facility in Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA , to work closely with state-of-the-art instrumentation and collaborate intimately with cross-functional research teams. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute Cryo-EM projects for determining high-resolution structures of proteins and protein complexes.
• Develop and optimize protocols for protein expression, purification, and Cryo-EM sample preparation.
• Operate and maintain state-of-the-art Cryo-EM instrumentation and associated equipment.
• Perform data collection and processing using advanced Cryo-EM software packages.
• Determine and refine 3D structures of biological macromolecules at near-atomic resolution.
• Interpret structural data to understand molecular mechanisms and guide drug design efforts.
• Collaborate closely with biochemists, structural biologists, and computational chemists.
• Author peer-reviewed publications and present research findings at international conferences.
• Mentor junior scientists and research associates in structural biology techniques.
• Contribute to the strategic planning and acquisition of new structural biology technologies.
• Ensure the highest standards of experimental rigor, data integrity, and laboratory safety.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of post-doctoral experience in structural biology, with a significant focus on Cryo-EM.
• Proven track record of successfully determining high-resolution structures of challenging protein targets using Cryo-EM.
• Extensive experience with Cryo-EM sample preparation techniques (e.g., plunge freezing).
• Proficiency in Cryo-EM data processing software (e.g., RELION, cryoSPARC, cisTEM).
• Strong understanding of protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics.
• Experience with other structural biology techniques (e.g., X-ray crystallography, SAXS) is beneficial.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with a record of publications and presentations.
• Ability to work independently and manage complex projects effectively.
• Strong collaborative spirit and experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
