Job description

Summary:

To create an exceptional shopping experience through effective leadership and execution of sales and merchandising functions within the store. To maximize profitability by understanding target markets and leading teams to foster a customer-centric environment. To implement strategies that improve store performance and enhance team productivity.

FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Experience

  • Demonstrate and ensure all associates project a positive attitude by serving customers promptly, efficiently, and courteously (Greet, Thank, Help).
  • Enhance customer experience by promptly recognizing and resolving conflicts, queries, or complaints.
  • Enforce the “sunset rule”: complete today's work today.
  • Ensure teams understand and implement customer experience initiatives as per company standards.
  • Develop and execute action plans based on customer feedback reports.
  • Maintain proper attire standards for all associates.
  • Ensure associates have the necessary skills and product knowledge to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Foster relationships with customers and focus on fulfilling their needs.
  • Maintain optimal service levels in all areas of responsibility.

Sales

  • Analyze market trends and develop strategies to improve sales, including competitor shopping.
  • Use sales performance reports to identify issues and develop action plans.
  • Support, coach, and motivate teams to exceed sales targets.

Expenses

  • Plan and monitor market opportunities to achieve monthly turnover goals.
  • Control expenses to prevent over-expenditure (scheduling, overtime, costs, etc.).
  • Manage records such as schedules, leave, clockings, and audit trails effectively.
  • Adhere to markdown processes and manage auction costs as per company policies.

Stock Loss

  • Adhere to security and risk management standards.
  • Implement and monitor stock take procedures and control shrinkage and damages.
  • Execute stock take post-mortem action plans.

Inventory Management

  • Maintain stock levels aligned with merchandising plans and sales performance.
  • Analyze merchandise movement to identify slow and fast sellers.
  • Manage aged and obsolete stock according to company procedures.
  • Ensure core stock and promotional lines meet company standards.
  • Review SAP CAR reports and develop strategies to improve store performance.

Merchandise

  • Implement and maintain space planning standards.
  • Manage gap scanning processes.
  • Update visual displays for new products, events, and themes following creative guidelines.
  • Display stock according to merchandising standards, including labels and signage.

Leadership

  • Continuously develop skills and capabilities.
  • Train and coach staff to meet store standards.
  • Complete individual development plans and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Manage onboarding and disciplinary processes.
  • Oversee recruitment, talent pipeline, and succession planning.
  • Promote collaboration and uphold organizational values such as integrity, service, excellence, and respect.

General

  • Maintain compliance with OHASA, stock loss, and audit standards.
  • Uphold housekeeping and maintenance standards.
  • Act on management communications and conduct MBWA (Management By Walking Around).
  • Support flexible duties as needed and stay informed on retail developments.

Requirements:

Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications & Experience:

  • Matric
