Job summary

Datafin It Recruitment seeks a hands-on Head of Technical for a fast-growing Solar PV O&M client in Cape Town. You will lead the technical function, drive portfolio performance, and provide engineering leadership across projects and client engagements.

The role requires strong Solar PV expertise, leadership of technical teams, and a focus on asset performance optimisation while collaborating with operations, field teams, and clients.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field.
• 5-8+ years’ experience within the Solar PV industry.
• Experience using monitoring platforms such as VCOM, SCADA, or similar Solar PV monitoring systems.
• Solid understanding of performance metrics such as PR, availability, energy yield, and system losses.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage multiple projects.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and client-facing communication skills.
• Own transport and valid license.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical strategy and performance of the Solar PV portfolio.
• Monitor and optimise system performance, availability, and energy yield.
• Analyse monitoring data to identify faults, perform root cause analysis, and recommend improvements.
• Support preventative and corrective maintenance planning alongside Operations & Maintenance teams.
• Oversee technical optimisation and upgrade projects.
• Build and maintain performance dashboards and technical reports.
• Act as the primary technical contact for clients, providing clear recommendations and performance insights.
• Mentor and develop the technical and O&M teams while promoting engineering best practices.
