Our client, a fast-growing e-commerce platform, is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer with expertise in Python and the Django framework. Based in Sandton, Gauteng, this role is pivotal in designing, developing, and deploying scalable backend services that drive their core business operations. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend services using Python and the Django framework.
• Build and expose RESTful APIs for consumption by frontend applications and third-party services.
• Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and testable code.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define project requirements and technical solutions.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Manage database schemas and optimize database queries for relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to coding standards.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and production issues.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and help shape the future of the platform's backend.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge on best practices in Python and Django development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend development, with a strong focus on Python.
• In-depth experience with the Django web framework and its components (e.g., ORM, Views, Templates).
• Proficiency in building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and design patterns.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and SQL.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus.
