Job summary

LexisNexis Intellectual Property in Cape Town seeks an experienced software engineer to lead design across systems and mentor junior engineers. You will translate customer requests into scalable solutions, participate in cross-functional teams, and contribute to architecture across cloud and on‑prem environments.

You will work with Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, .Net, and Python, applying data modeling and optimization to complex data stores while promoting best practices and modern development

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience
• BS in Engineering/CS or equivalent experience
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS strongly preferred)
• Strong proficiency with SQL and data modeling principles
• Knowledge of multiple data storage subsystems and data manipulation techniques
• Proficiency in Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, .Net, and Python
• Familiarity with test-driven development and development toolsets

Responsibilities

• Interface with technical personnel to finalize requirements.
• Write and review detailed specifications for complex system components.
• Translate product requirements into software designs with team input.
• Implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
• Work in Agile, Waterfall, and other environments with stakeholders.
• Mentor entry-level engineers in development methodologies.
• Design and work with complex data models.
• Guide less-senior developers on optimization techniques.
