Two-a-Day Group (Pty) Limited, based in Grabouw, is a major apple/pear packer with extensive on-premise systems. We seek a Senior Software Developer to own and evolve the business platforms, integrating production data, payroll, HR and QA tools with cloud services.

The role blends hands-on development with technical leadership. You will design end-to-end Django apps, build REST APIs, orchestrate data pipelines and mentor engineers while delivering reliable systems used during peak harvest.

Qualifications

• Must have built production software end-to-end using Python and Django.

• Comfort with Linux CLI and Bash for deployment and ops.

About the Role

Two-A-Day Group is one of the largest apple and pear packhouse operations in the Western Cape. Our operations are supported by an expanding portfolio of internal software, including production portals, payroll and human resources integrations, compliance and statutory reporting, mobile applications used on the packhouse floor, and the data pipelines that connect them.

We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to take ownership of this platform. The successful candidate will design and build the business systems that support daily operations, integrate them with the equipment and third-party services on which the business depends, and contribute to raising engineering standards across the team.

This is a hands‑on position carrying genuine technical ownership, in an environment where the systems you build are relied upon daily and are business‑critical during peak harvest.

The key performance areas, performed within a team context, include:

Build and Own Business Systems

• Design, develop and maintain full Django web applications end to end, from data models and business logic through to templates, views and deployed front‑end
• Build secure multi‑user web systems with authentication, role‑based permissions, forms, file handling and audit trails
• Build and maintain React and React Native front‑ends, including mobile apps used by operators and staff on the floor
• Model and query data across PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server, including reporting queries over large production datasets
• Write clean, tested, well‑documented code and keep technical debt visible and managed

Integration and Automation

• Integrate with third‑party and vendor systems: payroll and HR platforms (OData and REST), packhouse equipment vendors, label and printing hardware
• Design and maintain automation workflows in n8n, plus scheduled and background jobs (Celery, cron) for recurring processes
• Build and consume REST APIs, webhooks and event‑driven integrations between on‑premise systems and cloud services

Data and Reporting

• Build ETL and data pipelines that turn raw production, payroll and quality data into usable reporting
• Develop dashboards and reporting interfaces for operations, HR and management
• Work with the machine vision and ML side of the team to surface model outputs and production metrics in the systems people actually use
• Apply data science techniques (pandas, NumPy, statistical analysis, forecasting) to operational questions such as throughput, yield and labour planning

Cloud and Delivery

• Deploy and run applications on AWS (EC2, Lightsail, S3, RDS, Lambda, SES, CloudWatch, IAM, Route 53)
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and Docker, across development, staging and production environments
• Manage the hybrid reality of on‑premise packhouse infrastructure talking to cloud services, including basic Linux, networking and VPN troubleshooting
• Monitor application health, respond to production incidents and drive fixes to root cause

Leadership and Team Growth

• Run code reviews with clear, constructive feedback and enforce coding, security and performance standards
• Mentor junior developers and placement students through pair programming and informal training
• Act as a point of escalation for complex technical problems and production blockers
• Work directly with Operations, HR, Finance and Quality to turn business problems into working software
• Handle employee and operational data responsibly and in line with POPIA and company policy
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience
• 4 or more years' experience building and shipping production software
• Strong Python and Django, with proven experience building and deploying complete web applications: models and ORM, migrations, views, templates, forms, authentication and permissions, Django REST Framework, testing and admin customisation
• Strong SQL, with hands‑on experience of PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server, including query optimisation and indexing
• Comfortable on the Linux command line and writing Bash for deployment, scheduling and log analysis
• Practical AWS experience (at minimum EC2 or Lightsail, S3, RDS, IAM)
• Git, pull request workflow, Docker and CI/CD
• Working experience with data analysis in Python (pandas, NumPy) and building reporting from operational data

Strong Advantage

• React Native mobile development, including Expo, EAS builds and distribution via TestFlight and Google Play
• Workflow automation tooling such as n8n, Zapier or Make
• AWS Lambda, API Gateway and serverless patterns
• Celery, Redis or equivalent task queue experience
• Exposure to machine learning concepts and working alongside ML or computer vision teams
• BI and dashboarding tools (Power BI, Metabase or similar)
• Agriculture, manufacturing, logistics or other operational industry experience
• Advanced certifications in relevant technologies, for example AWS or Microsoft
• Formal project management or Agile training (Scrum, PMP)
• Previous mentoring or team lead experience
• Afrikaans, which is widely spoken across our sites
