SGS South Africa, Matrolab Division, is seeking to fill a key role in its Civil Engineering Site Laboratories.

The role involves, but is not limited to, providing, implementing and managing a laboratory production plan as per the site requirements.

The Senior Site Laboratory Manager will ensure all client communication is communicated to the relevant Regional Manager and ensure the requests are acted on, while maintaining discipline on site. The ideal candidate for this position will possess good leadership skills, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills, able to command respect from those they deal with, while maintaining good staff relationships.

A successful career in delivering performance against agreed strategic objectives and ensuring that all quality and testing methods are observed, with any deviation reported without delay.

Responsibilities:

1. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible for laboratory management production planning on site and meeting deadlines.
2. Liaise with clients and relevant regional managers.
3. Ensure reporting is correct before signing and distribution.
4. Implement quality control systems and Health and Safety regulations in and around the laboratory.
5. Manage a multi-disciplinary site laboratory including soils, concrete, asphalt, seals, and aggregates.
6. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
7. Assist technicians with any job, whether it is on site or inside the laboratory, as per instruction from the authorized site supervisor/laboratory manager.
8. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the authorized site supervisor/laboratory manager and regional manager.
9. Follow all SGS policies and procedures on site including but not limited to payroll, leave, and disciplinary procedures.
10. Provide training for all staff as training needs are identified.
11. Ensure all SGS mandatory training (OI Toolbox / Annual Integrity / Social Media etc.) is done as required.
12. Send all timesheets, claim forms, and payroll instructions to the relevant departments timeously.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Relevant National Diploma or NQF 6 / Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent or skills and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning.
2. Driver's License.
3. Relevant National Diploma and ten years relevant experience or NQF 6 and ten years relevant experience, OR Grade 12 and fifteen years relevant experience or NQF 4 and fifteen years relevant experience.

Skills:

1. Competent and qualified to do all tests in all laboratory divisions including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete / aggregate.
2. Competent and qualified in quality laboratory control and implementation.
3. Competent and qualified to supervise and execute all fieldwork.
4. Familiar with COLTO.
5. Knowledge of Health and Safety.
6. Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook).
