Placements24 seeks a Senior Shaft Services Engineer for an on-site role in Centurion, Gauteng. You will lead the design, installation, and commissioning of underground shaft systems and manage comprehensive maintenance programs for hoists, cages, and related equipment.

You will drive safety, reliability and efficiency through strong project management, mentoring, and collaboration with planning, operations and safety teams in a major mining operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
• 8+ years of shaft engineering and services experience in the Mining industry.
• Proven experience with design, operation and maintenance of mine hoisting systems (e.g., friction/ drum hoists).
• Familiarity with shaft sinking procedures, rope maintenance, and ground support for shafts.
• Knowledge of mining regulations and safety standards (Mine Health and Safety Act).
• Excellent project management, leadership and team coordination.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering software and diagnostic tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design, installation, and commissioning of shaft systems and upgrades.

About the Role

Our client, a major contributor to the Mining industry, is actively seeking a highly experienced Senior Shaft Services Engineer for their operation located in Centurion, Gauteng, ZA . This critical on-site role is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and safe operation of all underground shaft systems, including hoisting, ventilation, and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical systems specific to mining shafts, along with strong project management and leadership skills. You will ensure the reliability and efficiency of essential mining infrastructure, directly contributing to the overall productivity and safety of the mine. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned engineer to take on significant responsibility within a respected organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of new shaft systems and upgrades.
• Develop and manage comprehensive maintenance programs for all shaft equipment, including hoists, skips, cages, conveyances, ropes, and associated mechanical/electrical components.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards for underground mining shaft operations.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in shaft engineering and services within the Mining industry.
• Proven experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of mine hoisting systems (e.g., friction hoists, drum hoists).
• Strong knowledge of shaft sinking procedures, rope maintenance, and ground support for shafts.
• Familiarity with relevant mining regulations and safety standards (e.g., Mine Health and Safety Act).
• Excellent project management, leadership, and team coordination skills.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering software and diagnostic tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication and reporting skills.
• Must be willing to work full-time on-site in the Centurion, Gauteng, ZA area.
• Professional registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
