Job description

Position summary:

As Senior Sales Manager of the Retail Media team, you will be accountable for leading and scaling the Retail Media sales portfolio for the Massmart’s banners and digital properties; as well as driving revenue through monetization of media assets across online, in-store, and off-platform environments. The role is also expected to partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Product, Marketing, Commercial, Tech, and Creative Ops) to develop, sell, and deliver high-impact retail media solutions to suppliers, brands, and advertisers.

The Retail Media Team is made up of Strategy, Sales (where this role sits)., Operations, Design, and Client Success. Our mission is to help brands and sellers meaningfully connect with customers on their shopping journey – wherever that occurs, by enabling discovery of the right products at the right time to save money and live better.

Retail Media sits within the broader Alternative Revenue business.

What you'll do:

  • Sales Leadership and Revenue Growth: Drive the end-to-end retail media sales strategy, targeting FMCG and non-FMCG suppliers, third-party advertisers, and media agencies.
  • Product and Proposition Development: Provide market and customer feedback to influence product innovation and retail media asset development.
  • Strategic Client Management and Relationship Building: Lead strategic conversations with executives, suppliers, and advertisers.
  • Governance, Forecasting and Reporting: Own the media sales revenue forecast and report regularly on performance, risks, and mitigation plans to the Executive: Retail Media Strategy.
  • Performance and Reporting: Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance against targets across all media formats (on-site, in-store, off-site).

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma in Media/ Marketing / Business / Sales related qualifications.
  • Honours Degree / Postgraduate Diploma in Media/ Marketing / Business / Sales-related qualifications advantageous.
  • 8+ years of experience in retail media sales/ digital advertising sales/ e-commerce advertising-related roles with a proven record of consistently exceeding media sales targets, of which 3 years must have been managing a team.
