Position: Senior Safety Officer, D1

Internal & External

The role :

The Senior Safety Officer is responsible for continuously monitoring and analyzing safety, health, and environment data and systems to minimize and mitigate employee exposure to unsafe and hazardous conditions.

The role involves coordinating the maintenance of SHE systems by conducting daily, weekly, and monthly analyses, reporting findings to relevant line managers for action, and maintaining effective procedures and systems.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring compliance with legal requirements and duties of 2.17.4
  • Participating in safety audits and arranging logistical support
  • Conducting operational risk assessments and developing action plans
  • Organizing and leading departmental meetings with stakeholders, including line managers and safety representatives
  • Compiling safety reports
  • Providing training and coaching on safety practices
Requirements :
  • National Diploma in Safety Management or progress towards completion, with at least 10 subjects completed (Level 1)
  • Minimum of 3 years mining experience in health and safety
  • Mining or technical professional with relevant safety training and a strong performance record, including 1 year in middle management
  • Experience in incident investigation (LFI)
  • Deep understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation, including the Mine Health and Safety Act and Occupational Diseases Act
  • Good understanding of Operational Risk Management (ORM), safety management theory, behavioral safety, and risk management frameworks
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems
  • Valid driver's license
  • Possession or ability to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous qualifications :

  • Trade and/or Mine Overseer ticket
  • Blasting Certificate
  • COMSOC 1 & 2
  • Experience in mining, engineering, or metallurgy
  • ICAM Investigation Lead certification
