The role:

The role is responsible for continuously monitoring and analyzing safety, health, and environment data and systems to minimize and mitigate employee exposure to unsafe and hazardous conditions. It involves coordinating the maintenance of SHE systems by conducting daily, weekly, and monthly analyses, reporting findings to relevant line managers for action, and maintaining effective procedures and systems.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Conforming to legal requirements and duties of 2.17.4
• Participating in safety audits and ensuring logistical arrangements are made
• Participating in operational risk assessments and compiling action plans
• Setting up, participating in, and coordinating departmental meetings with stakeholders, including line managers and safety representatives
• Compiling reports
• Conducting training and coaching

Requirements:

• National Diploma in Safety Management or working towards completion, with a minimum of 10 subjects completed at Level 1
• Minimum of 3 years mining experience in health and safety
• Relevant safety training and sound performance record, including at least 1 year in middle management positions
• Experience in incident investigation (LFI)
• In-depth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation, including the Mine Health and Safety Act and Occupational Diseases Act
• Good understanding of Operational Risk Management (ORM), safety management theory, behavioral safety, and risk management procedures and systems
• Knowledge of Safety Management systems
• Computer literacy (MS Office)
• Valid driver’s license
• Possession or ability to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
