Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Process Safety Engineer to uphold safety standards across Port Elizabeth chemical operations. You will identify and mitigate process hazards to prevent accidents and ensure regulatory compliance.

You will develop robust safety management systems, conduct risk assessments, and promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline (≤140 chars).
• 7+ years in process safety within chemical/petrochemical industry (≤140 chars).
• Proven expertise in PHAs and PSM implementation (≤140 chars).
• Knowledge of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP regulations (≤140 chars).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills (≤140 chars).

Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct PHAs (HAZOP, What-If, FMEA).
• Develop and maintain PSM programs and procedures.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes.
• Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations.
• Provide process safety guidance during design, construction, and operation.
• Develop and deliver safety training for staff and engineers.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and expert Process Safety Engineer to ensure the highest safety standards across their chemical operations in Port Elizabeth . This critical role focuses on identifying, evaluating, and mitigating process-related hazards to prevent accidents and ensure regulatory compliance. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing robust safety management systems, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in process safety principles and a proactive approach to safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment within the chemical industry .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and procedures.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant local and international safety regulations and standards.
• Provide expert guidance on process safety aspects during the design, construction, and operation phases of projects.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to operational staff and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience specifically in process safety within the chemical or petrochemical industry.
• Proven expertise in conducting PHAs and implementing PSM elements.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
