Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Retail Buyer to join our merchandising team near Upington, Northern Cape. You will develop buying strategies, source suppliers, negotiate terms, and manage inventory to maximize profitability while aligning with brand strategy.

You will collaborate with sales, marketing, and suppliers to identify opportunities, forecast demand, and drive a competitive product assortment across key categories in the Northern Cape region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or a related field.
• 5–7 years of progressive experience in retail buying or merchandise planning.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and vendor management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement buying strategies for assigned product categories to maximize sales and profitability in Upington and beyond.
• Identify market trends and customer needs to inform product selection and assortment planning.
• Source new suppliers and build long-term relationships with vendors.
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve cost efficiencies.
• Manage the product lifecycle from selection to in-store placement and markdown strategies.
• Collaborate with marketing to develop promotional plans and product launches.
• Analyze sales data and inventory to optimize stock turns and forecasts.
• Manage budgets and forecasts for assigned categories.
