The ideal candidate has a robust retail design portfolio, expert knowledge of customer experience, branding, and current trends, plus strong technical and project-management skills to lead multiple projects across locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, SACAP registered.
• 7+ years professional experience in architecture, 4+ years in retail design.
• Strong portfolio of high-end retail or commercial projects.
• Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Suite.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic and innovative architectural firm known for its work with leading retail brands, is seeking an experienced Senior Retail Architect to join their growing team. This role will be primarily remote, offering flexibility while focusing on the design and development of captivating retail spaces. You will be responsible for translating brand identities into exceptional architectural designs for flagship stores, shopping centers, and commercial precincts. The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio of retail design projects, a keen understanding of customer experience, brand strategy, and current retail trends, along with excellent technical and project management skills. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the physical manifestation of leading brands and shape consumer environments across various locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design process for retail projects, from concept development to construction documentation.
• Collaborate closely with clients, marketing teams, and brand strategists to understand design objectives.
• Develop innovative and functional designs that enhance customer experience and brand presence.
• Create detailed drawings, specifications, and presentations for retail environments.
• Manage multiple retail projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.
• Oversee site analysis, feasibility studies, and site selection for new retail developments.
• Coordinate with engineering consultants, contractors, and fabricators to ensure design intent is realized.
• Stay abreast of the latest trends in retail design, technology, and consumer behavior.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes and accessibility standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, registered with SACAP.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in architecture, with at least 4 years specifically focused on retail design.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating successful high-end retail or commercial design projects.
• Proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite).
• Excellent understanding of spatial design, materiality, lighting, and branding in retail contexts.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage budgets and timelines effectively.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and client-facing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
• Experience with projects in Nelspruit or the Mpumalanga region is a plus, but not essential given the remote nature of the role.
