Division : Priceless SA

Main purpose of the job :

  • To lead on legal aspects of public health research related to NCD prevention, the commercial determinants of health, and nutrition.

Location :

  • Wits School of Public Health, Parktown, Johannesburg

Key performance areas :

  • Identify novel research methods and ideas.
  • Attract research funding by identifying and applying for research grants in line with PRICELESS research strategy.
  • Publish research in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, reports, and present findings to stakeholders, the PRICELESS team, and other groups including the media.
  • Manage research projects from inception to completion.
  • Write research protocols.
  • Oversee sourcing/procuring of protocol-specific equipment and supplies as required.
  • Clean and analyse data according to the highest standards, using appropriate software.
  • Compile and contribute to conference presentations.
  • Write and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Disseminate research findings internally, to universities, partners, and other external stakeholders such as the community and media.
  • Manage and mentor junior researchers.
  • Supervise Masters students.
  • Uphold the values of Priceless SA.

Required minimum education and training :

  • LLM, LLD, or PhD in Health Policy.

Required minimum work experience :

  • Minimum seven years of working experience in a research environment.

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities :

  • Interest in constitutional law.
  • Interest in administrative law.
  • Interest in health and equity in South Africa.
  • Experience in research methodologies.
  • Published articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Good conceptualisation skills.
  • Experience in teaching.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptive with a positive approach to taking on several duties.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
