Division : Priceless SA
Main purpose of the job :
- To lead on legal aspects of public health research related to NCD prevention, the commercial determinants of health, and nutrition.
Location :
- Wits School of Public Health, Parktown, Johannesburg
Key performance areas :
- Identify novel research methods and ideas.
- Attract research funding by identifying and applying for research grants in line with PRICELESS research strategy.
- Publish research in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, reports, and present findings to stakeholders, the PRICELESS team, and other groups including the media.
- Manage research projects from inception to completion.
- Write research protocols.
- Oversee sourcing/procuring of protocol-specific equipment and supplies as required.
- Clean and analyse data according to the highest standards, using appropriate software.
- Compile and contribute to conference presentations.
- Write and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
- Disseminate research findings internally, to universities, partners, and other external stakeholders such as the community and media.
- Manage and mentor junior researchers.
- Supervise Masters students.
- Uphold the values of Priceless SA.
Required minimum education and training :
- LLM, LLD, or PhD in Health Policy.
Required minimum work experience :
- Minimum seven years of working experience in a research environment.
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities :
- Interest in constitutional law.
- Interest in administrative law.
- Interest in health and equity in South Africa.
- Experience in research methodologies.
- Published articles in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
- Good conceptualisation skills.
- Experience in teaching.
- Attention to detail.
- Flexible and adaptive with a positive approach to taking on several duties.
- Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
