Introduction

Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior R&D Engineer/Scientist within the Measurement and Control Division (MCD). The division develops and implements world-class process control solutions and measurement instruments. It’s differentiating factor is its ability to combine in-depth process understanding with sophisticated process control skill on a flexible control platform that has been purpose-built, to deliver solutions that are tailored to extract every last ounce of performance from each minerals processing control challenge to which it is applied.In a continuous effort to actively find solutions to these challenges, Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for two Senior R&D Engineers/Scientists within MCD. The incumbent will be required to assist the division to develop focus is supplying technologies and products that deliver tangible and significant improvements in recovery, and reductions in reagent & energy usage to minerals processing plants and smelters all over the world.

  • Assist Research Group Leader/Head of Research to make technical decisions having an impacton the research direction and outcomes within the division.
  • Ensure that the products the division delivers appeal to a wide range of operations, whichshields the discipline from the cyclical nature of the mining industry.
  • Ensure that the documentation of work and procedures is done and produce advancedprofessional level reports and publications.
  • Able to demonstrate eager to innovation, strategic thinking and to drive both operationalefficiency and groundbreaking solutions.
  • Transform opportunities into proposals for funded research with in conjunction with otherResearch Leaders.
  • Ensure that SHEQ procedures are followed and project work is executed to produce valid conclusions and with maximum overall efficiency - technically and financially.
  • Prepare reports, presentations and publications at the level of an experienced professional.
  • Lead, guide, mentor and train junior staff
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • MSc/MEng in a relevant Engineering or Scientific field relating to automation, sensing technology,and platform technology. PhD will be advantageous.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in research or knowledge-based organisations.
  • Experience in working on the following MCD related products:
    o Advanced Process Control (APC)
    o Carbon Concentration Meter (C2 Meter)
    o Cynoprobe Cyanide Analysis
    o FurnStar Furnace Control
    o Software Competitor Analysis – PLC & DCS
    o Software – StarCS
  • Strong ability to drive MCD R&D projects towards new commercial offerings.
  • Commercialisation of products at advanced TRL levels.
  • Experience in attracting research funding.
  • Registration or eligibility for ECSA or SACNASP.
  • Evidence of prototyping, commercialisation of products and accreditation of methods will be anadvantage.
  • Track record of research, supported by publications in peer-reviewed journals, patents, chapters
