Senior Quantity Surveyor

Job Purpose: The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the overall financial and contractual management of building construction projects from pre-contract through to final account.

The successful candidate will ensure value for money, cost control, and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans, and forecasts.
  2. Conduct detailed measurement and valuation of works (on-site and from drawings).
  3. Manage procurement processes including tendering, negotiation, and contract administration.
  4. Monitor and report on project costs and commercial performance.
  5. Prepare interim valuations, final accounts, and cost reports.
  6. Advise on contractual matters and manage claims and variations.
  7. Collaborate with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to ensure alignment on financial matters.
  8. Ensure compliance with building contracts, legal requirements, and company policies.
  9. Mentor junior quantity surveyors and assist in team development.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
  2. Professional accreditation (e.g., MRICS, PrQS) is highly desirable.
  3. Minimum of 15 years' proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a strong background in building construction.
  4. Extensive experience working for a main contractor.
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-value projects.

Skills and Competencies:

  1. Strong knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., JBCC, NEC, FIDIC).
  2. Excellent financial, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  3. High attention to detail with strong organizational and planning abilities.
  4. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., CCS Candy, BuildSmart, MS Excel).
  6. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
