Job summary

The Recruiter is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the full QS function on building projects in Cape Town. You will drive cost control, budgets, valuations and final accounts with a proven ability to manage financial and contractual aspects.

This role requires 8+ years in building construction, strong subcontractor management, and CCS Candy/BuildSmart proficiency. You will report to senior management and collaborate closely with project teams.

Qualifications

• BSc/ BTech or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
• 8+ years’ experience in building construction with a reputable contractor.
• Strong cost control, budgeting, and subcontractor management.
• Excellent understanding of contracts and commercial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full quantity surveying function across building projects.
• Prepare budgets, valuations, payment certificates and final accounts.
• Cost control, forecasting and financial reporting.
• Measurement and preparation of BOQs.
• Subcontractor procurement and management.
• Evaluate subcontractor claims, variations and payment applications.
• Manage variations, contractual notices and commercial negotiations.
• Monitor project expenditure and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Collaborate with Project Manager, Site Agent and Contracts Manager.
• Provide accurate commercial reporting to senior management.

A well-established building contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Cape Town.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong QS with solid building construction experience and a proven ability to manage projects from a financial and contractual perspective.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the full quantity surveying function across building projects
• Prepare and manage budgets, valuations, payment certificates and final accounts
• Cost control, forecasting and financial reporting
• Measurement and preparation of BOQs
• Subcontractor procurement and management
• Evaluate subcontractor claims, variations and payment applications
• Manage variations, contractual notices and commercial negotiations
• Monitor project expenditure and identify cost-saving opportunities
• Work closely with the Project Manager, Site Agent and Contracts Manager
• Ensure accurate and timely commercial reporting to senior management

REQUIREMENTS

• BSc/BTech/National Diploma in Quantity Surveying
• 8+ years’ experience within the building construction industry
• Strong experience working for a reputable building contractor
• Proven experience on commercial, residential, industrial or multi-storey building projects
• CCS Candy experience is essential
• BuildSmart experience is essential
• Strong subcontractor and commercial management experience
• Excellent understanding of construction contracts and project cost control
• Strong computer and Excel skills
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of the commercial function
