Job summary

Atuba Construction (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial and financial management of multiple construction projects from award to final account.

You will control costs, cash flow, and profitability, procure subcontractors, prepare valuations and final accounts, and provide guidance to junior staff. The role requires strong numeracy, contract knowledge (JBCC/NEC), and excellent communication with clients and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Quantity Surveying qualification and matric.
• Experience in subcontractor procurement and contract administration.
• Strong numeracy and financial reporting skills.
• Knowledge of JBCC/NEC contracts and BuildSmart software required.

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial and financial performance from award to final account.
• Control project costs, budgets, cash flow forecasts and profitability reporting.
• Procure and manage subcontractors, suppliers and material purchases.
• Prepare interim valuations, variation orders, payment certificates and final accounts.
• Administer JBCC and NEC contracts, including EOTs.
• Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts and MIS.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors on commercial matters.
• Mentor junior Quantity Surveyors and contribute to process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures and regulations.
• Support project teams to deliver within budget and programme.

Job description

The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for the commercial and financial management of multiple construction projects from award to final account. The incumbent ensures that project costs are accurately controlled, profitability is maximized, contractual obligations are met and all reporting is completed accurately and timeously.The position plays a key role in managing project budgets, subcontractor procurement, interim valuations, variation orders, cash flow forecasting, final accounts and client liaison. The Senior Quantity Surveyor provides technical support and guidance to Junior Quantity Surveyors, while maintaining accountability for the successful commercial delivery of projects.

Requirements

Education Requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• National Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying
• CCS/Candy certification
• JBCC and NEC contract training
• SACQSP registration advantageous

Work Experience Requirements:

• Strong numeracy, financial management, problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Advanced knowledge of construction methods, materials, regulations and industry practices.
• Proven experience in subcontractor procurement, contract administration and commercial negotiations.
• Expertise in interim valuations, variation orders, extension of time (EOT) claims, and final account settlements.
• Ability to prepare and manage project budgets, cash flow forecasts, cost reports and profitability reporting.
• Strong relationship management skills with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Proficiency in CCS/Candy, BuildSmart and quantity surveying software systems.
• Thorough understanding of JBCC and NEC construction contracts.
• Ability to mentor junior Quantity Surveyors and provide commercial guidance to project teams.
• Excellent report writing, communication and negotiation skills.

• Ensure compliance with company procedures, reporting requirements and industry regulations.
• Mentor and provide guidance to Junior Quantity Surveyors and contribute to the continuous improvement of commercial processes.
