Job Purpose
To oversee and manage all cost-related aspects of mining and infrastructure projects, from pre-contract to final account. This role requires an experienced and professionally registered Quantity Surveyor with comprehensive exposure to multi-disciplinary measurement and NEC 3 ECC contract administration. The role will be based out of Johannesburg, however there will be Site travel to Limpopo which the candidate must be prepared for. The candidate must be passed as medically fit to be able to visit underground and undertake site visits underground.
Key Responsibilities
- Be able to measure,
- Develop cost estimates (bill of quantities), project budgets, and tender documentation
- Conduct feasibility and cost-risk evaluations
- Administer contracts, specifically under NEC 3 ECC frameworks
- Monitor project costs, produce cost reports, and implement savings strategies
- Prepare valuations, progress claims, and final accounts
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams for accurate cost planning
- Conduct weekly site visits for inspection, cost validation, and reporting
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, safety, and quality standards
- Undertake escalation calculations and reconciliations
Qualifications & Registration
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying (BSc or BTech)
- Professional registration as a PrQS with SACQSP or equivalent body
Skills & Experience
- 10 + years’ quantity surveying experience, with minimum 5 years in mining
- Proven track record in the measurement of civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and control & instrumentation (C&I) works
- Strong working knowledge of NEC 3 ECC contract conditions
- Proficiency in cost management systems (e.g. CCS Candy, BuildSmart, MS Project)
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement, cost reporting, and commercial negotiation
- Experience in underground mining environments
- Capable of operating in remote and site-based settings
