Job summary

An Independent Power Producer is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to lead the execution of large-scale solar PV projects across sub-Saharan Africa. The role demands strong project management skills and a deep understanding of EPC contracts, design optimisation, and compliance with criteria governing grid integration. The right candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 5 years of experience in the field.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in utility-scale solar PV projects.
• Experience managing FIDIC-based EPC contracts.
• Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE) and NERSA/grid compliance.

Job description

Join a market-leading Independent Power Producer (IPP) driving large-scale Renewable Energy deployment across sub-Saharan Africa. As a Senior Project Engineer, you’ll be Instrumental in the Full Lifecycle execution of Utility-scale Solar PV Projects, from pre-feasibility and concept development through EPC execution and Grid Commissioning. You will oversee technical due Diligence, design optimisation, Interconnection Studies and ensure compliance with grid codes and regulatory frameworks. A strong command of FIDIC, EPC, O&M, and PPA contract structures is essential, as you’ll be expected to coordinate closely with legal, commercial, and financial teams to align technical scopes with contractual obligations.

• BEng, BSc Eng, or BTech in Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years' experience in utility-scale solar PV projects
• Demonstrated experience with EPC and Owner’s Engineer interfaces
• Proven track record in design review, RFP technical package development, and contractor technical evaluations
• Working knowledge of grid integration, SCADA, protection systems, and MV/HV substation design
• Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE) and local NERSA/grid compliance requirements
• Experience managing FIDIC-based EPC contracts, O&M agreements, and interpreting PPA technical appendices
