Senior Project Development Manager – Wind and Solar PV – Cape Town

We’re hiring a Senior Project Development Manager with experience in the utility-scale energy sector to join a Sustainable Project Development Company based in Cape Town. In this role, you’ll help drive large-scale wind and solar projects to financial close and provide support throughout the construction phase.

As a Senior Project Development Manager, you will lead and collaborate with members of the Development Team, overseeing key tasks required to advance projects. These tasks may include site selection, land acquisition, plant layout, permitting, and commercial negotiations related to the sale of project equity and procurement of goods and services.

Education Requirements

• Degree in Engineering, Business Science, Law, Natural Sciences, or similar (Engineering preferred)

Experience Requirements

• 5–7 years in renewable energy project development (REIPPPP experience highly desirable)
• Grid Engineering experience is beneficial
• Financial Close experience or working towards it
• Proven track record of managing large-scale projects within budget and deadlines
• Strong commercial experience in negotiating land and project sale agreements
• Understanding of DEA Environmental Authorization processes
• Familiarity with GIS tools, cash flow modelling, and EPC sales collaboration
• Valid SA Code 08 driver’s licence
• Experience in Infrastructure, Energy, or Construction sectors

Responsibilities

• Project Management: Oversee wind, solar, and hybrid projects in various development stages, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery
• Site Identification & Design: Use GIS tools for site selection; collaborate on plant design, including turbine, PV array, and electrical layouts
• Landowner & Investor Relations: Negotiate with landowners and participate in investor selection processes
• Budget & Financial Oversight: Manage project budgets and assist with financial modelling
• Licensing & Permitting: Coordinate licensing tasks with statutory organizations for necessary approvals
• Team Leadership: Guide junior team members, ensuring quality and consistency in project development
• Negotiations & Agreements: Develop and finalize development and sale agreements; contribute to tender submissions
• Risk Management & Reporting: Mitigate risks, maintain progress reports, and participate in reviews
• Support to EPC Sales Team: Provide project development support based on project needs
