Job summary

Mediclinic Cape Gate in Cape Town seeks a Senior Professional Nurse for the Surgical ICU to support the Unit Manager in delivering safe, high-quality care. The role includes direct patient care, mentorship to junior staff, and ensuring efficient utilization of resources.

The successful candidate will have essential nursing qualifications, postgraduate credentials, and 3+ years of hospital experience with mentoring experience. Preference given to internal staff where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Ensure optimal staffing resources and efficient use of supplies and budget.
• Mentor and supervise new and student nurses in the unit.
• Assist with operational expenses, stock, and capital management.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager in ensuring a safe and positive client experience by mitigating clinical risks and co-ordinating care delivery. They further provide direct patient care, as well as mentorship to new and student nurses in the unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

• Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting set clinical quality standards
• Manage the client experience
• Ensure optimal supply, retention, and utilisation of staffing resources
• Empower and build staff competence through continuous assessment and development
• Assist with the effective management of operational expenses (including stock and capital)

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

Professional Nurse qualification and

Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit (e.g. Perioperative Nursing)
