Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a leading force in the Oil & Gas sector, is seeking to appoint a highly skilled Senior Production Engineer to their esteemed team, operating primarily from Pretoria, Gauteng, ZA. This role is central to optimizing the performance of producing fields, ensuring efficient and safe extraction of hydrocarbons. The Senior Production Engineer will analyze production data, implement artificial lift systems, diagnose operational issues, and collaborate with other disciplines to enhance well and facility performance. This position offers a significant opportunity to influence production strategies and contribute to the economic success of major projects. We are looking for an individual with a strong technical background and a proven ability to drive operational improvements in a challenging environment. The role involves a significant degree of autonomy and technical leadership, with the flexibility to work remotely part of the time.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze production rates, pressures, and fluid properties for oil and gas wells.
• Design, implement, and optimize artificial lift systems (e.g., ESPs, rod pumps, gas lift).
• Diagnose and troubleshoot production problems, recommending solutions to maximize recovery and minimize downtime.
• Conduct well performance analysis and conduct well test interpretations.
• Develop and execute workover and recompletion strategies.
• Collaborate with reservoir engineers to forecast production and evaluate development plans.
• Work with facilities engineers to ensure efficient fluid handling and processing.
• Prepare production forecasts, operational reports, and economic justifications for production enhancement projects.
• Mentor and guide junior production engineers.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in production engineering within the oil and gas industry.
• Strong knowledge of artificial lift technologies and production optimization techniques.
• Proficiency in production software and data analysis tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong understanding of wellbore hydraulics and surface facility operations.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience supporting operations in or near Pretoria, Gauteng, ZA is beneficial.
